Paver patios, walkways and fire pits built to stay put
Paver patios and walkways, fire pits, retaining walls, gravel and stone areas, edging and borders. Built on a proper base so they do not sink.
A hardscape is the part of a yard that does not need mowing, and in the Panhandle it is the part that gets used: a patio you can put a table on, a walkway that is not a mud path by the gate, a fire pit for the four months a year it is nice to sit outside at night. We build paver patios and walkways, fire pits, low retaining walls, gravel and stone areas, and the edging and borders that hold everything in place.
What makes one patio last and another one sink is underneath. Our sandy soil drains well but it moves, so the base is dug out, compacted in thin lifts, and edged with a restraint before a single paver goes down. On a sloped lot that often means a short retaining wall on the low side. It takes longer than laying pavers on sand, and it is the difference between a patio that is still level in ten years and one that is a trip hazard in two.
Gravel and stone areas are the practical cousin: a parking spot for the boat, a dry strip along the side of the house where grass never grew, a path through a bed. Edging and borders, steel or paver, are the cheapest way to make beds and lawn look finished, and we do them on their own or as part of a bigger job.
Every project is priced in writing after Jake has measured the space, with the pavers or stone you picked and the base work spelled out. Most at-grade patios do not need a permit in Escambia or Santa Rosa County; walls over about four feet and anything raised do, and we check before quoting.

Hardscapes: what people ask first
How much is a paver patio?
It depends on the size, the paver you choose and how much base work the ground needs, so it is priced per job after Jake measures the space. You get a written quote with the materials listed before anything is ordered.
Do I need a permit for a patio or a wall?
For an at-grade paver patio, usually not, in either Escambia or Santa Rosa County, though setbacks and HOA rules still apply. A retaining wall over about four feet, or a patio raised more than thirty inches, needs one. We check with the county or city before quoting.
Why do some paver patios sink?
Because they were laid on sand with no compacted base and no edge restraint. Our soil moves. We dig out, compact the base in thin lifts, and restrain the edge, which is most of the labour and all of the reason a patio stays level.
Can you build a fire pit?
Yes. A paver fire pit with a gravel or paver surround is one of the projects we most enjoy. We place it clear of the house, fences and trees, which is what the fire code and your insurance want.
Do you do retaining walls?
Low ones, yes: garden walls, walls to level a sloped lot for a patio, and walls to hold a bed. Anything over four feet gets into engineering and we would talk that through first.
Can I pay for a bigger project in installments?
For larger projects, ask about paying in equal installments through our invoicing. Jake will explain the terms before you commit.
